An 81-year-old man’s dog saves him from drowning after his wheelchair slides into the lake…

Because to Sarah June’s assistance in saving Harry Smith from drowning in a lake in Port St. Lucie, Florida, the 81-year-old has a newfound respect for his little companion, Sarah June. Details of the event were released on the local police department’s Facebook page, which was hailed as “feel good Friday news” by the community…

They went out for a morning walk around the lake, something he claims they do at least twice a day with one of his closest friends. Even though they were taking advantage of the beautiful weather and spending time outside together, the unexpected occurred during their normal visit: Mr. Smith’s motorized wheelchair lost traction on the mulch and began sliding down the hill, dropping him into the lake below.

He fought to keep his head above water since he was unable to swim and was trying to remain afloat. Sarah June’s rapid reaction prevented a potentially fatal outcome for her loving owner, who was in danger of losing his life.

“She’s such a nice dog,” Smith said afterwards, according to WPTV News. Everybody in this community adores her, and they are all concerned about her well-being.”

When Officer Doty got out of his patrol car, he saw Mr. Smith completely buried in water up to his neck. He and the other two spectators raced to Harry’s rescue and hauled him out of the water and onto the bank for safety. After receiving medical assistance on the site, Mr. Smith was able to return home without suffering any significant injuries, thanks to the quick response of the emergency personnel.

Unfortunately, the old gentleman’s motorized wheelchair was damaged as a result of the accident in the water, so first responders from the St. Lucie County Fire District assisted him in being pushed back to his house, with Sarah June proudly accompanying them.

“I’m in love with her! I’ve always done it, and I’ll continue to do it,” Smith told reporters from WPTV. His laughter could be heard as he said, “I gave her something special”. After saving the day with her heroic acts, the adorable canine gets numerous more treats.
